She joined her dashing former Army Air Corps pilot Harland in everlasting matrimony on September 3, 1949. Together, they raised three children and are survived by them: Jacki Cook-Haxby (David Haxby) of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; Richard Cook of Waterloo, Iowa and Donn Cook of Hopkins, Minnesota. Mildred is also survived by her grand-daughters: Jennifer Orton (Craig) and Abby Johnstone (Chris) along with their children Jenna, Olivia and William. Also surviving are Mildred's sister Marie Chaney and many nieces and nephews. Mildred held several positions throughout her lifetime including cook and manager of the Waterloo Grill where she met her husband Harland, and as a volunteer for local hospitals, church and civic organizations. But her favorite and life-long work was that of devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Public visitation will be for one hour before services at the church.
