She graduated from Thurston High School and Muskingum College; taught school in rural Fairfield County in the early 1900s and served as treasurer of the Liberty Township Community Chest for many years. She was the beloved aunt and mother to nephews, Richard D. (Jean) Weidner and Thomas O. (Ruth Ann) Weidner, all of Baltimore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noel D. Gessell; parents, David and Tryphena Ballmer; two sisters; and three brothers. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Baltimore, with Pastor Benjamin Foulk officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Christ United Methodist Church in Mildred's memory.
