She was baptized and confirmed at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Earling and attended the Earling school. She graduated with the Class of 1947. On January 19, 1949, she was united in marriage to Nick Heese at St. Josephs. Eight children were born to this union: Janice, Diane, Norma, Barb, Marilyn, Sharon, Ron, and Lois. Mildred was a homemaker and raised her children. She took a job at CDS in Harlan when the children were older. She enjoyed gardening. Mildred died on Monday, January 10, 2011, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-one years, eight months, and twenty-six days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Norman and Mark, and a granddaughter Mary Ann Williams. She is survived by her husband Nick Heese of Harlan, Iowa; daughters: Janice and her husband David Williams of Carroll, Iowa, Diane Rickers and her friend Ron Willenborg of Carroll, Norma Crocker of Omaha, Nebraska, Barb and her husband Gene Rice of Crescent, Iowa, Marilyn and her husband Bill Nicolosi of Yukon, Oklahoma, Sharon and her husband James Ward of Earling, son Ron Heese and his wife Janet of Earling, Iowa and Lois Ratay of Omaha; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; brother Ralph Kramer and his wife Eula of Portsmouth, Iowa; sisters: Helen and her husband Bernie Leinen of Harlan, Alma and her husband Rich Leinen of Portsmouth, Stella Lefeber of Portsmouth, Jeanette Kramer of Harlan, Marie Pemberton of Overland Park, Kansas, and Irene Lefeber of Portsmouth; other family members and friends. Rev. Chris Fontanini celebrated the 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa, on Friday, January 14, 2011. Honorary casket bearers were Monica Kimball, Matthew Kimball, Tracie Sehnert, Brad Williams, Jared Williams, Ashley Ratay, Amy Light, Holly Nicolosi, Tony Kimball, Mallory Braby, Jamid Braby, Danielle Rice, Julie Rickers, Brian West, Nikki Ratay, Taylor Heese and Dana Rice. Serving as casket bearers were Jason Williams, Bruce Williams, Tristan Heese, Eric Nicolosi, Cody Rice, Lisa Rickers, Kelsey Heese, and Dustin Ward. Interment was held at St. Josephs Cemetery in Earling, Iowa.
