Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 P.M. on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. The reception will follow in "The Bistro" at Carson's. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa. Mildred was born on a farm near Delmar, Iowa to Oly and Bertha (Wing) Walrod on March 25, 1914. She graduated from Delmar High School and Maquoketa Junior College. She taught third and fourth grade in Delmar until her marriage. In 1938 she married Glen Woods, who farmed near Hurstville. They set up housekeeping at 105 East Apple St., Maquoketa, Iowa, where they raised their three J's - Judy, Jane and Jill. She enjoyed entertaining friends, playing bridge, attending Tuesday Club, Mother's Club and Women's Club. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women (UMW) on both the local and district level. She loved to rearrange furniture, cook (tweaking recipes to her satisfaction), and was a voracious reader. During the summer when the girls would bring the grandchildren home to visit, the garage would be turned into a dormitory for the children to sleep. Many activities were planned and many memories made. During their retirement, Mildred and Glen spent winters in Fort Pierce, Florida, enjoying the warm weather and making new friends. For the past eleven years, Mildred made her home at Clover Ridge Place, where she was loved by her "girls". Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, her parents, Oly and Bertha Walrod, her sister, Helen Walrod Felten and a son-in-law, Jack Pereboom. She is survived by: daughters, Judy Pereboom, Evansville, IN, Jane (Dick) Moeller, Fort Mills, SC and Jill (Pete) Rechtfertig, Sheboygan, WI.; nine grandchilden, Jane Pereboom Morber, Sarah Pereboom Nelson and Matt Pereboom, Mitch Moeller, Libby Moeller Bertoni and Jenny Moeller Barnes, Josh Rechtfertig, Noah Rechtfertig and Benjamin Oly Rechtfertig; and seventeen great-grandchildren, Todd, Drew and Tessie Nelson, Rylie Vaupel, Avery and Elliott Pereboom, Emily, Betsy and Ethan Moeller, Connnor, Hannah, Dylan and Griffon Bertoni, Megan Rank, Charlie, Jack and Zeke Rechtfertig. Our heartfelt thanks to those who knew Mom and made her life special. Hospice, Home Instead and especially Clover Ridge Place, her second family, who made it possible for Mom to stay in the home community she loved, where family and friends would stop by or call almost daily.
