Uehling, 87, of Hooper died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in her home. Mildred Meyer was born May, 8, 1913, in rural Hooper. She was a 1932 graduate of Hooper High School. She married Elmer Uehling Nov. 24, 1934, in Albion. She lived in Hooper area all her life and moved into Hooper in 1985. Her spouse died Aug. 1, 1980. She worked for 13 years at former Dahl's Steakhouse in Scribner until retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hooper and sang in the church choir, St. John's Ladies Aid, Dorcas Society, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Aid Association for Lutherans, Hooper Woman's Club and Singles Motivated into Living Enthusiastically (SMILE) of Hooper area. She was a former member of an extension club. She was honored for more than 900 hours of volunteer work at Hooper Care Center. Survivors include: a son, Jerry L. Uehling and special friend, Mary Popken, both of Hooper; two grandchildren, Timothy (and wife, Kathleen) Uehling of Omaha and Jim Uehling of Hooper and his fiance Jina Zaracki of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Emilie (Klusendorf) Meyer; and a sister, Florence Goree. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl Lehmann officiating. A closed casket visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery north of Hooper. A memorial has been established to St. John's Lutheran Church.
