Ruehs, 81 of Plainfield, Iowa passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. Mildred Selma Ruehs was born on October 31, 1929, the daughter of Rudolph W. and Amanda S. (Milius) Kohagen. She was baptized on November 24, 1929 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church – Artesian rural Waverly and confirmed on April 18, 1943 at St. John's Spring Fountain Church, rural Sumner. She attended country school near Sumner, Spring Fountain Parochial School and graduated from Tripoli High School as valedictorian. Following her education, she was employed at Lutheran Mutual and worked for the Harrison family of Nashua. On November 26, 1950, she was united in marriage to Waldo Ruehs at St. John's Spring Fountain Church, rural Sumner. The couple made their home in rural Plainfield, where Mildred helped raise her family and helped with the farm operations. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church – Western Douglas and was the first woman on the church council. Mildred was active with 4-H as a leader, enjoyed bowling, gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking, ceramics and traveling. Survivors are her husband, Waldo Ruehs of Plainfield, Iowa; three daughters, Dixie (Darrel) Kramer of Plainfield, Iowa, Sheila (Tom) Evancie of Auburn, California and Julie Lewis of Kansas City, Missouri; son, Michael (Mishell) Ruehs of Plainfield, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sister, Wilma Raudabaugh of Waterloo, Iowa; two brothers, George (Lorraine) Kohagen of Waverly, Iowa and Rudy (Marilyn) Kohagen of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and by a sister-in-law, Wilma Kohagen of Readlyn, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Edmund, Bill, Oscar and Melvin Kohagen; and by three sisters, Dorleen Kueker, Margaret Walther and Leona Zander. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 10:30 am at St. John's Lutheran Church –Western Douglas rural Plainfield with Pastor Kim Thacker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday in Waverly, Iowa and also an hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice of Waverly or to St. John's Lutheran Church – Western Douglas
