Description	:	Mrs. Mildred Stewart Upchurch, 95, wife of the late Rev. Percy B. Upchurch, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at her home. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at The Memorial Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park. Mrs. Upchurch, a native of Henderson, NC, was the daughter of the late Hamilton and Eunice Wortham Stewart. She attended Trinity College and graduated from Longwood College in Farmville, VA. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park. Mrs. Upchurch, a native of Henderson, NC, was the daughter of the late Hamilton and Eunice Wortham Stewart. She attended Trinity College and graduated from Longwood College in Farmville, VA. She taught school for several years before her marriage to Rev. Upchurch. She was a member of The Memorial Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Chatham Book Club, and was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, as well as several women's clubs and garden clubs. Mrs. Upchurch loved people and was active in many areas of the church. She capably assisted her husband in his ministry at First Baptist Church in Nashville, NC, Monroe, NC, Mullins, SC, and The Memorial Baptist Church, Greenville, NC from which he retired in 1970. After retirement, they moved to Williamston, NC. They enjoyed meeting and making many new friends as Rev. Upchurch served as interim minister to many churches of northeastern North Carolina, including Edenton, Elizabeth City, Piney Grove, Reddicks Grove, Windsor and Washington. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Stewart Bergeron; her brothers, Albert, Macy and Percy Stewart; and a nephew, John H. Bergeron. She is survived by a daughter, Sarah Upchurch Browing of the home; son, Joseph B. Upchurch and wife, Judith of Greenwood, SC; grandchildren, Robert Locke Browning, III and Dr. Stewart Redfearn Browning, both of Austin, TX, Bryant Hamilton Upchurch of Atlanta, GA, and Joseph Brandon Upchurch of Greenwood, SC; nieces and nephews, Kay Stewart Kidd and Ann Stewart, both of Greensboro, NC, Martha Stewart Bergeron of Henderson, NC, William Stewart ofVirginia Beach, VA, Thomas Stewart of Hickory, NC, William Upchurch of Morrisville, NC and Furman Upchurch of Raleigh, NC.
