She is survived by her sister, Elvina Sunwall of Aspen Meadows Retirement Community, Billings; sisters-in-law, Frances (Lief) Sunwall, of Fergus Falls, Minn., Geraldine (Kaleb Sunwall) Sutter of Eagle Grove, Iowa, and Frances (Aril) Sunwall of Sidney; 26 nieces and nephews, and over 60 grand-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Nils, Esther, Alma (Sunwall) Thompson, Philip, Kaleb, Thelma (Sunwall) Erickson, Aril, Ruth, Miriam (Sunwall) Erickson, Leif and Samuel; seven brother and sister-in-laws, and her nieces Martha Erickson and Doreen Sunwall. Milly attended Zich School and Froid Public Schools before going to high school at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, Fergus Falls, Minn., where she graduated in 1948. She earned her RN at Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing, Minneapolis, and began her nursing career there. Although she lived much of her life in Montana, Milly's inquisitive spirit, love of travel and passion for nursing took her on adventures across the United States and to Africa and Europe. She worked as a nurse in Billings, California, Seattle, Alaska, South Carolina and Colorado before returning to Deaconess Hospital, Billings, as an operating room nurse until her retirement in 1994. In 2009 nieces, nephews, and family members from around the U.S. came to help Milly and Elvina move from their home in Billings into Aspen Meadows, where they lived together until Milly's death. When it came to favorite places, Montana's mountains and countryside topped Milly's list. She traveled the breadth of Montana visiting Glacier Park repeatedly, vacationing in the Beartooth Mountains and exploring many small towns and natural areas across this vast state. She enjoyed crafts, needlework, music, art and reading and was very proud of her home town of Billings — its cultural offerings, restaurants and the view from the Rims. Milly loved beauty wherever she found it — in gardening, interior decorating, baking and nature. An avid daily reader of The Billings Gazette she kept up on local and world events. A steadfast Christian, Milly attended Billings Bible Church and more recently Yellowstone Lutheran Brethren Church. Reserved by nature, Milly would prefer little be said about her and much be said about her faith and trust in Jesus Christ who helped her through declining health, decreased mobility and challenges she faced. Her deep faith in Christ, love for family, and generosity touched many lives. Her quick wit, infectious laugh, sharp mind and twinkling blue eyes will be missed until we see her again in Heaven. Her memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Michelotti-Sawyer Mortuary, 1001 Alderson, Billings. Her cremated remains will be interred at Sunset Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome in behalf of Lutheran Brethren International Missions, P.O.Box 655, Fergus Falls, Minn., 53567. Michelotti-Sawyers is assisting with arrangements.
