Description	:	Mildred Teresa (Ostdiek) Herz was born September 10, 1924 near Lawrence to Henry and Dora (Rempe) Ostdiek, the second of ten children. She departed this life on June 8, 2016 at the Blue Hill Care Center in Blue Hill, Nebraska at age 91. She attended St. Stephen's grade school and graduated from Lawrence High School in May 1942. Read More	Mildred Teresa (Ostdiek) Herz was born September 10, 1924 near Lawrence to Henry and Dora (Rempe) Ostdiek, the second of ten children. She departed this life on June 8, 2016 at the Blue Hill Care Center in Blue Hill, Nebraska at age 91. She attended St. Stephen's grade school and graduated from Lawrence High School in May 1942. After graduating from high school and before she was married, she taught school for four years and worked with a student with disabilities. Mildred married Ralph Herz on September 10, 1946, her 22nd birthday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence. They were blessed with 14 children. They lived on a farm southeast of Lawrence until they retired in Lawrence in 1986. In addition to being a farmer's wife and mother of fourteen children, Mildred worked at Lawrence Public High School from 1971 - 1994, first as a study hall monitor and then as assistant librarian. Mildred was a patient, kind, generous and loving woman. She will be remembered as an outstanding cook and baker who would welcome anyone to be a guest at the dining table. She was an expert gardener producing abundant fruit, vegetable and flower gardens. Education was important to Ralph and Mildred and they wanted all their children to receive post high school education which they did. She passed on her joy of sewing and baking to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mildred loved all people in her life and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Mildred is survived by: her children, Joseph, Patricia (Donald) Berg, Kenneth (Glenda), Marilyn (David) Roelfs, Daniel (Cathryn), Rose (Steve) Selko, Paul (Connie), John, Annette (Todd), Alan (Barbara), Mark (Lori), Leland (Patricia), and Lynda Percival; 32 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; siblings, Fr. John Ostdiek, Anita Conway, Arnold Ostdiek, Fr. Gilbert Ostdiek, OFM, Francis (Fritz) (Rita) Ostdiek, Jovita (George) Schneider, Clara Lou Bricher; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Ostdiek. Mildred was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Ralph in 2004; daughter, Susan in 1964; and siblings, Sr. Lenora Ostdiek and Art Ostdiek. Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence on Monday, June 13, 2016. Burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in rural Lawrence. Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska was in charge of arrangements.
