Born December 17, 1933, in Swanton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Margaret (Friend) Beckman. Born December 17, 1933, in Swanton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Margaret (Friend) Beckman. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Paul Sherman Harvey in March 2021; a son, Sherman Richard Harvey; infant brother; sister Tryphena Beckman; nephew, Randall Friend; niece, Carolyn Friend; sister-in-law, Dorothy Beckman; brother-in-law, Harold Friend. Mildred attended the North Glade School and was among the last graduating class from Oakland High School. She worked at the high school as a cook until she got married. She enjoyed her garden, sewing, needle craft, making braided rugs and taking care of baby lambs, all of which are traits she passed down to her grandchildren. Mildred and Paul lived with Paul's parents on the family farm for 23 years but continued to live there after his parents passing. She cherished her family and was a farmer's wife and homemaker. Mildred was a member of Mt. Lake Independent Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Simon Harvey and wife, Anna, Anmoore, WV; Stuart Harvey and wife, Melissa, Oakland; five grandchildren, Garrett, Kyle, Rachel, Ranae, and Isaac Harvey; two great grandchildren, Tucker and Myla Harvey; two brothers, Melvin Beckman, Swanton, MD; Marvin Beckman and wife, Ruth, Swanton; a sister, Margaret (Peggy) Friend, Warren, OH; two nephews, Melvin Leslie and Andrew Beckman; many other nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Friday at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Dr., Oakland, MD, 21550, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Services will be held at Mt. Lake Independent Baptist Church, 1005 Broadford Rd., Oakland, MD, 21550, on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Leatherman officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at White Church Cemetery, Oakland.
