Read More	MILDERD SAUNDERS CHAFA, 86, MISSOURI Mildred Sunders Chafa, 86, of Excelsior Springs, MO (formerly of Fontanelle) passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2001, at the Royal Care Center in Excelsior Spring, MO where she had resided since 1985. Mildred was born on January 21, 1914 in Tilden, Nebraska. She was the 2nd out of 10 children born to Arthur and Margaret (Jennings) Saunders of which five are still alive. She was united in marriage to Ralph Chafa in February of 1936 and gave birth to three children; Patricia ('Tricia), Larry and Mike. They also raised a granddaughter, Gerri Spencer, firstborn child of Larry Chafa and Judy May. They started their married life working on a farm owned by Debt Chafajust east of Fontanelle. Then later moved to Massena in 1948 to help Basil Chafa with a trucking and farming business. In 1954, they moved to Atlantic and later to Council Bluffs for approximately 20 years until Ralph's retirement I 1977, at which time they moved to Barstow, California, where their son Larry resided. Ralph passed away in 1989 and Mildred relocated to Excelsior Springs, Missouri, to be near her daughter "Tricia and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ralph, son in law Duane Olsen, grandson Ron Olsen, parents and 5 siblings. Survivors include her daughter and son in law, "Tricia and Dennis Holt of Weeping Water, NE; a special granddaughter, Gerri, (raised as a daughter) and Jeffrey Spencer of Kearney, MO., sons and daughters in law, Larry and Dee Chafa and Michael and Ella Chafa, all of Colorado; five siblings, 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the teen Funeral Home in Fontanelle. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fontanelle Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. The Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle is in charge of arrangements
