Miles Gibbons was born in County Mayo, Ireland, on June 24th, 1837 and died at his late home in Walnut, Iowa, December 15th, 1909, aged 72 years 5 months and 21 days. He came to America in the year 1847 at the age of 10 years. From New York he removed to Illinois where he resided until the year 1867. Miles Gibbons was born in County Mayo, Ireland, on June 24th, 1837 and died at his late home in Walnut, Iowa, December 15th, 1909, aged 72 years 5 months and 21 days. He came to America in the year 1847 at the age of 10 years. From New York he removed to Illinois where he resided until the year 1867. In the spring of 1867 he removed to Iowa locating on his farm near Walnut, where he resided until the spring of 1908, when he retired from the farm and moved to his late home in Walnut. He was married to Mary A. Craney in the year 1877. To this union was born 11 children. Nine children and his wife survive him. The funeral occurred at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Saturday morning conducted by Rev. Father P. F. Gaffney. The remains were laid at rest in the Catholic Cemetery north-west of the city.
