The following is from the Lennox Diamond Jubilee Book. Very few of the original homesteaders in Perry Township are living at this time. Among them is Miles Tullar who has the distinction of being among the earliest settlers in the township. In spite of his nearly 87 years he is up and around making frequent visits to Lennox. Mr. Tullar was born on January 16, 1852 in Green County, Wisconsin. There he continued to make his home until he was 22 years of age. In 1874 he came west to Dakota Territory, arriving here in March, 1874. He homesteaded on the southeast quarter of section 18, two miles north of Lennox. There Mr. Tullar built his sod shanty and lived alone for several years. In March, 1879 he was married to Sarah Isabelle Bedford. Mrs. Tullar was born October 11, 1859 at Oregon, Wisconsin, and there grew to womanhood coming west to Dakota territory with her parents in 1875 and locating on a homestead north of Lennox. There she resided until her marriage to Mr. Tullar. This union was blessed with two children. Mr. and Mrs. Tullar experienced and witnessed the hardships and privations which fell to the lot of these early homesteaders. Their fortitude and courage to carry on brought success and material rewards in later decades. At the present time Mr. Tullar is making his home with his son Elmer, who is operating the old homestead farm. Mrs. Tullar passed away on January 16, 1911. One son, Elmer is the only living child.
