Visitation will be held Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Eldon Christian Church, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with the family present to greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. As were Janice’s wishes, her body will be cremated following the visitation, with burial to be held at a later date. Millie Janice Chickering, daughter of Clyde and Millie “Huffman” McClure, was born April 28, 1936 in Floris, IA. She grew up on the family farm near Floris where she quickly learned the value of family and a hard work. Janice attended Eldon Community School and graduated with the class of 1954. She was united in marriage to John Chickering on July 5, 1952 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. This union began a partnership that lasted nearly fifty years. Together they were the loving parents to seven children. Her home and her family were the focus of her life, and she wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Janice was a hardworking housewife and mother, but also ran a furniture upholstery business from her home. She shared her talents as a cook, serving senior meals for over 13 years. Janice was a woman of many talents. She would work on everything from the plumbing to the house roof. She had a passion for quilting and left behind many quilts that her family can cherish for years to come. Janice felt most comfortable at home, but would occasionally take a trip to enjoy the atmosphere of Las Vegas, as well as Arizona and Oklahoma. She was a fun loving, sweet, caring lady who put others before herself and made her family her top priority. She will be missed. Janice is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, John L. Chickering (2002); a great granddaughter, Alissa Durflinger; A grand daughter, Ashley Fuhs; four brothers, Fred, Gail, Wallace, and Wayne “PoDunk” McClure; as well as a special friend, Bodie Glotfelty. Left to cherish her memory are her seven children, as well as 18 grandchildren. 33 great grandchildren, and many extended family and friends.
