Description	:	Milo Fay Hazen age 92 of Syracuse passed away Wednesday morning February 24 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, NE. He was born October 10, 1928 to Lloyd and Fay (Carman) Hazen at the family farm southeast of Cook. Milo attended Mt. Pleasant Country School, grades 1-8. He graduated from Tecumseh High School with the Class of 1947. Milo was a lifelong farmer. He loved the land and enjoyed the planting, tending, and harvesting the crops. Read More	Milo Fay Hazen age 92 of Syracuse passed away Wednesday morning February 24 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, NE. He was born October 10, 1928 to Lloyd and Fay (Carman) Hazen at the family farm southeast of Cook. Milo attended Mt. Pleasant Country School, grades 1-8. He graduated from Tecumseh High School with the Class of 1947. Milo was a lifelong farmer. He loved the land and enjoyed the planting, tending, and harvesting the crops. He farmed the Carman/Hazen home place and raised Angus cattle with his father. He served in the United States Army June 25, 1950 thru July 23, 1953 during the Korean Conflict. When he returned home, he moved to Syracuse and worked thirty-two years for the city of Syracuse and continued to farm the home place. Milo enjoyed his membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. He became a Master Mason, May 10, 1955. He was the oldest living member at the time of his death. Milo served these organizations as chairman of various committees and programs. For many years he served as VFW Voice of Democracy Chairman on the local and District 6 committees. He enjoyed attending district, state and national conventions. He was president of the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association following in his mother’s foot prints. He made sure the local cemetery was mowed and trimmed and “ship-shape” all summer long. Every Memorial Day morning, Milo raised the flag at daybreak and removed it at sunset. This was the same forty-eight-star flag that had draped the casket of Milo’s Great Grandfather. His great grandfather Carman, a Civil War veteran, had taught him respect for veterans and for the flag of our country. When Milo could no longer live alone, he moved to High Plains Care Facility in Lincoln. Milo is survived by his sisters, Judy McAlexander of Brownville, Virginia Schlender of Pawnee City; nephews and nieces, Vernon (Jeanine) Hazen of Sterling, Eldonna Hazen (Cathy Noth) of Madison, WI, Rick Schlender of Plano, TX, Cindy Johnson of Pawnee City, Jeff (Jana) Schlender of Kearney, Amelia (Dave) Ellis of Brownville, Ernest (Amy) McAlexander of Falls City, Mathew (Dawn) McAlexander of Firth and many great-great nieces and nephews and close friend John Babiuch. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother: Shannon Hazen & Sister-in-law: Erma Hazen, Brothers-in-law: Leonard Wright & Harold Schlender. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Cook, NE
