Read More	Many at Funeral for Milon Wood Beautiful Floral Tributes Tell Esteem in which He Was Held Geneva Free Press, October 6, 1916 Never was there a more beautiful day for the passing of a beloved one from human vision, than Wednesday, the funeral day of Milon Wood. The services were held at the family residence on Eastwood-st, at two o'clock in the afternoon and a very large assembly gathered to pay last tributes of respect to the lamented youth, and in sympathy with the family so suddenly and tragically bereaved. The company included the teachers of the G. H. S. and the classmates of the deceased, beside fiends, neighbors, relatives, members of the Baptist church and Sunday school, of which Milon was a member. Prof. R. G. Ryan officiated and was assisted by Rev. J. H. Palmer, pastor of the First M. E. church, who offered prayer at the house and gave the committal service at the grave. Prof. Ryan read the comforting scripture from John, "Let not your heart be troubled," on which he based the solace and consolation of his remarks, also reading Job's words, "If a man die, shall he live again?" Also Job's words, "Thou wilt call and I will answer, and I will wait my appointed time." He spoke of Christ as the author of life, conqueror of death and victor over the grave, "O, death where is thy sting, and grave thy victory." He spoke of Milon Wood's fine Christian character. He was a clean boy, a boy of honor. He planned to be useful and to win honorable success in life, and he has left a great and lasting influence by his goodness, patience in his last hours, and the glorified way in which he died, brightness on his face, and with the words, "I am coming." Thus he went from his life of youthful happiness to the life eternal. The speaker mentioned his love for his home, his devotion to the household, his high ideals. He is crowned with a bright memory here and the beautiful hope of the hereafter. It was an eloquent Christian tribute. Miss Blanche Humphrey rendered vocal solos, "Sometime we'll understand"; a quartet, Miss Humphrey, Miss Laura Randall, C. E. Webb and Sydney Beckwith rendered the selection, "Safe in the arms of Jesus." The floral tributes were profuse and exquisite, the pieces including a pillow of pink and white roses, with the name "Milon," from the family, from Milon's class, Milon's Sunday school class of the Baptist church, and the "Ladies and Knights;" from the Haskell class of the school; Seniors of the high school, teachers of G.H.S., pupils of the high school, football team, Epwoth League, class of Miss Claudia Wood of the Baptist S.S. Palms and red and white roses, from the football team of Ashtabula Harbor, and many personal tributes from relatives and friends. Those present from out of town were, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Muir, Rock Creek; Mrs. Helen Holcomb, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Russell and son Laurence, Mrs. Timothy Jerome, Ashtabula. Burial was made in Mr. Pleasant cemetery, where the grave service closed with a prayer by Prof. Ryan. The bearers were classmates of the deceased. ===================== He was fatally hurt in a high school football game when Geneva High School played Ashtabula Harbor.
