Pallbearers were his six brothers, Clayton Weiss, Harvey Weiss, George Weiss, Valentine Weiss, John Weiss, and Albert Weiss. Today, in the midst of stormy scenes of life, we pause to pay our last affectionate tribute to one of God's heroic sons who gave his life in a last bitter struggle in a service to his fellow men. Milton Weiss, in company with three other courageous men, met his tragic death on the broad prairies of Phillips County, eight miles south of Holyoke on Saturday, April 10, 1948. Battling the ravishing flames of an uncontrollable fire, he fell before it in a last, heroic attempt to stay its destructive force. Mr. Weiss was born November 25, 1910 at Imperial, Nebraska, the son of William and Katherine Weiss, and it was here where he grew to stalwart and sturdy manhood. He received his education in the Imperial schools. Shortly thereafter, he was married to Miss Laurine Weiss, November 21, 1934 and to bless and brighten their home five children were born: Two sons, Dallas and Larry, and three daughters, Jo Ann, Thelma and Georgia. In addition to his splendid immediate family who remain to mourn his untimely passing he leaves his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. William Weiss of Imperial, Nebraska; six brothers, John, Clayton, Albert, George, Valentine and Harvey, and three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Molzahn, Mrs. Orinda Hedges, and Mrs. Elsie Case, all of Imperial, Nebraska. Two deceased sisters preceded him in answering the final call. Early in his youth, Milton Weiss was baptized in the Evangelical church of Imperial, Nebraska. In 1934, Mr. Weiss moved from Imperial to Holyoke, Colorado, where, seven miles south of that city, he engaged in farming which was to be his profession during the remainder of his life. Milton Weiss was a loving husband and father, and it was in his home and around his family where he derived his greatest pleasure. His friends were numbered by those whose privilege it was to know him. He was sincere and honest and forthright in all of his human relationships and men sought his companionship because of his even and serene temperament and because he possessed a personality which, at all times, radiated warmth and understanding. His host of loyal friends stand today with bowed heads and glistening tears of sympathy as we pronounce these last words of respect and devotion. And we may recall the word of comfort of the traveler who stood upon the shore of a vast ocean, and as he watched the sun sink beneath the horizon, and the gloaming twilight blend into darkness, he turned away with sadness, as it seemed as if the orb of day had disappeared never to return. But the coming morning brought it back again in resplendent glory and beauty giving life and vitality to a slumbering world. So, may we not hope that in the bright morn of the resurrection we shall again meet our husband and brother.
