Hull, 72, Maryville, retired probate judge, died at 11:36 p.m. Sunday at a convalescent center at Grant City, following a long illness. He was a veteran lawyer and served in both World War I and II. Hull was commanding officer of Co. L, 3rd Battalion HQ of the 3d Regiment, Maryville, of the Missouri State Guard from 1942 to 1944. He was born Sept 24, 1898, at Amazonia, the son of the late Curtis Eugene and Bessie Caples Hull. He began working as a section hand on the C. B. & Q. railroad at the age of 15. He was employed as a telegrapher of C. B. & Q., and seriously considered entering the legal division of the railroad. He passed the state bar examinations in 1928 and was a member of the Missouri Bar Association until his death. He received a commission as probate judge of Nodaway County June 25, 1930, from former Gov. Henry S. Caufield, following the death of Judge Jesse F. Robertson, and was elected to the office the following November. He held the office consecutively until 1958, except for a time during World War II when he obtained a leave of absence to serve with the United States Army. He also served as magistrate and probate judge of Gentry County and was president of Missouri Probate Judges Association. Hull attended the elementary school and two years of high school at Pickering. He was a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Maryville AF & AM Masonic Lodge; First Christian Church, Maryville; Elks Lodge; Moila Temple, Scottish Rites; and American Legion. He was married Oct 7, 1916, at Pickering to the former Miss Eva Ruth Burks, who survives. Submitted by: jeanie1225, May 20, 2014
