Nearby his wife, Bessie Broyles Barlow was seated at a table writing a letter and ironically had written that the doctors had advised her that he was in serious condition and an attack could be fatal. She had just written the word "fatal" when she heard him gasp and turned to see that death had struck. He lived a few minutes and although his physician was there in a few minutes and the resuscitator was used, it was too late. He had been ill for the past year and had undergone a thyroid operation and been in and out of the hospital several times during the past twelve month. Mrs. Barlow had checked with a heart specialist on Tuesday of last week and he had warned her that he might be stricken any time so while death came suddenly, it was no wholly unexpected. Mr. Barlow was born on the Barlow homestead northwest of Plainfield April 16, 1901, the son of Henry and Minnie Douglass Barlow. His mother passed away eighteen years ago and the father in 1951. He has two sisters, Mrs. Helen Krebs of Plainfield and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lydick of Coatesville, both of whom survive. Mr. Barlow was graduated from the Plainfield high school with the class of 1920 and in 1928 married Bessie Broyles a high school sweetheart who was also a class member of the 1920 class. They were married on St. Valentine's day and this year marked the thirty-second anniversary of their marriage. They had no children but the widow survives, together with Mrs. Barlow's mother, Mrs. Alice Broyles who resided with them for a number of years. Mr. Barlow was widely know in this vicinity among the farmers especially since he did custom bailing and combining and also repaired farm machinery. He was associated with the Daum Hardware when he became ill and was forced to quit work. He was a member of the Plainfield Christian church; Funeral services were conducted from the Hall Mortuary in Plainfield Saturday afternoon, by the Reverend Emory Reece of the Bridgeport Methodist church, where Mr. Barlow is a member. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery.
