Steckelberg, 87, of Chamberlain will be Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Milton Wayne Steckelberg was born February 29th, 1924 to August and Mae (Kingsbury) Steckelberg at home, West Point Township in Brule County. He attended school until the ninth grade. Steckelberg, 87, of Chamberlain will be Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Milton Wayne Steckelberg was born February 29th, 1924 to August and Mae (Kingsbury) Steckelberg at home, West Point Township in Brule County. He attended school until the ninth grade. At the age of 18, he traveled to Washington State and worked on a dairy farm and later Boeing Aircraft. He returned to Chamberlain where he farmed and custom combined. On June 16, 1945, Milton was united in marriage to Alyce Speckels. To this union five sons were born, Denny, Dob (Darryl), Don (Oz), Gerald, and Mike. In the early 50's he started making brick and block and soon after opened the Redi Mix Concrete. In 1964, using a comic book as blueprints, he designed and built the Flintstones Bedrock City in Custer, SD. Milton took great pride in his yard, garden, and shop but especially loved spending time with his family. Milton passed away on January 25th, 2012 at Sanford Nursing Home in Chamberlain at the age of 87 years. Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Alyce of Chamberlain; four children, Denny Steckelberg and Hertha of Gillette, WY, Dob Steckelberg and Diane of Yankton, SD, Don (Oz) Steckelberg and Peg of Chamberlain, and Mike Steckelberg and Judy of Chamberlain; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and special daughter-in-law Julie Mertz and Tim and children; brother, Clayton Steckelberg of Yankton, SD; two sisters-in-law Arlene Steckelberg of White Lake, SD and Kate Steckelberg of Sturgis, SD. Preceding him in death were his son Gerald, grandson Danny, his parents, sister Verda, brothers Merle, Harold, Darwin, and Glenn. Rest in peace, Milt. Your job here is done. Visitation will be Friday at the United Church of Christ with family present beginning at 6:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
