Read More	Mina Belle Schafer, age 85, Grand Junction, CO, passed away Monday September 30, 2013, at the HopeWest Hospice. She was born to Miles and Mildred Stanley on March 26, 1928, in Saguache, CO. After spending her early years in Salida, the family moved to Grand Junction where she graduated from Grand Junction High School. She attended Mesa Jr. College where she met and married Paul Stark. They raised their family in Fruita and later divorced. On April 26, 1972, she married the love of her life, Urban Schafer, and together, for the next 41 years, they guided, supported, and loved the blended family and each other. Mina spent many years as a bookkeeper for City Market, Fruita Co-op and various other businesses in the Grand Valley. She was a member of the Fruita United Methodist Church, The Rebekahs, The Supper Club and The Fruita Church Craft Club. What she did best was create beautiful things. She is best known for her "Mina Bears", still valued by children and collectors across the United States. She is survived by her husband, Urban Schafer; five children, Mike Stark, Sun City, AZ; Cindy (Stark) Moore, Grand Junction, CO; Wayne Schafer, Sulphur, OK; Mel Schafer, Fruita, CO, and Donnie Schafer, Grand Junction, CO; a sister, Vanetta Moore, Grand Junction, CO, and a brother, Gerry Stanley, Westminster, CO; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Stark, and a grandson. A service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. with viewing from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 F Road, Grand Junction, CO. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to HopeWest Hospice or The American Cancer Society . Published in The Daily Sentinel on October 4, 2013
