Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bartels, 73, of Leader, Minn., formerly of Kasson, died Friday (Aug. 29, 2008) of leukemia at her home. Mina Marie Willemssen was born Aug. 5, 1935, in rural George, Iowa. She attended George public schools and graduated from George High School. She worked as a secretary in Sioux Falls, S.D., was a caretaker for an aunt in Beverly Hills, Calif., and then worked at Jennings Drug Store in George. She married Elmer Louis Bartels on April 19, 1955, in George. The couple lived in West Fargo, N.D., Olympia, Wash., and Richfield, Minn., before moving in 1975 to Leader, Minn., where they operated Elmer's General Store. Mrs. Bartels was postmaster of Leader for a decade. In 1986, the couple moved to Kasson, where she worked at Images. They retired in 1996 to their home in rural Leader. He died in 2003. She enjoyed tending her flowers and feeding birds. She is survived by a son, Craig (Susan) Bartels, of Staples, Minn.; two daughters, Carla (Robert) McKimmy, of Motley, Minn., and Cinda (Kelly) Boldan, of Willmar, Minn.; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great-grandchldren; four step great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville (Wanda) Willemssen, of Hull, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Willemssen, of Pequot Lakes. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Willemssen, and a step-grandchild. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jurrens Funeral Home, George.
