Description	:	Minerva Baker, daughter of Wesley and Mary Baker, was born in Indiana, Aug, 20, 1850 and departed this life July 24, 1934, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 4 days. She came to Iowa with her parents when a child. She was coverted and united with the Baptist church and lived a faithful life. She was united in marriage to William Bennett in the year 1865. Read More	Minerva Baker, daughter of Wesley and Mary Baker, was born in Indiana, Aug, 20, 1850 and departed this life July 24, 1934, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 4 days. She came to Iowa with her parents when a child. She was coverted and united with the Baptist church and lived a faithful life. She was united in marriage to William Bennett in the year 1865. To this union eleven children were born, two dying in infancy, Mack dying at the age of 23 years. She leaves to mourn her departure eight children, James of McGrath, Minn., Samuel of Humeston, William of Corydon, Jesse of Leon, Mrs. Mary Walters of Downsville, N.Y., Lyda Allee of Corydon, Allen Worden and Lizzie Jenkins of Leon, 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, two sisters, Lyda Simmons of Bulo Neb., and Rebecca Leeper of Stanton, two brothers, James and Jasper Baker of Leon and a host of other relatives and friends. Three brothers and one sister preceding her in death. Aunt Sis as she was commonly called was a kind and loving mother. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She will be greatly missed by all, but was ready to meet her Savier. Funeral services were held at the Stewart Funeral Home, conducted by George R. Bamby?, interment being in the Leon cemetery.∼Minerva was the first wife of William Bennett (1845-1910). They were married in 1865 and had eleven children together. Minerva and William were divorced sometime between 1895 and 1896. William was on the 1895 census with Minerva, but remarried soon after that. Minerva did not remarrry. Please note: There is a listing in the Bethel Cemetery records for Minerva but she is not buried there. She is buried at Leon Cemetery according to her obituary, death certificate and there is a precise burial plot location for her at Leon. Perhaps initially, they thought she would be buried at Bethel as there are other Bennett family members there, but later, it was decided to have her interred at Leon instead. Obituary ~ Minerva V.
