Minette could look at a photo of a designer dress and duplicate the... Read More	GRAVES (RISSER), MINETTE KAY Died: January 21, 2014 Age 85 Born on February 4, 1928, in Middletown, Ohio to James S. Risser and Marie Kay Kelley Risser. Minette was raised on Midland Street on the west side of Bay City, MI, and hailed from a French/Swiss decent. Minette attended Handy High School, but completed her senior year of high school at Stephens College. In the spring of 1948, she graduated from Stephens College with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and was the President of the Merchandising Club. Minette could look at a photo of a designer dress and duplicate the pattern. She did this on many occasions and was admired by all in her beautiful creations at formal affairs. On December 30, 1948, Minette married the love of her life, Lawrence B. Graves, (lovingly know as Laurie to friends and family) of Bay City, MI, at the First Presbyterian Church of Bay City, where they were members for over 50 years. The happy couple honeymooned in Chicago where they stayed at the world famous Palmer House. For over 64 years, they were inseparable. Laurie predeceased her in October, 2012, at the age of 86. Predeceased by her parents, Marie Kay Kelley Risser, James S. Risser, and sister Susan Risser Grimm. Minette and Lawrence moved to Grosse Pointe in December of 2011, to be closer to her sons and family, James R. Graves (Janet L.), Lawrence B. Graves, Jr. (Sue A.), and Mark S. Graves (Deb). Minette also leaves six grandchildren, James R. Graves, II, Jason T. Graves, Justin C. Graves, Jonathan B. Graves, Kaitlin R. Derks (Zachary G.), and Jeffrey G. Graves. Minette put her keen business mind to work in the mid sixties when she opened Bell, Book and Candle, a novelty shop in downtown Bay City. The Bell, Book and Candle (named after the 1958 movie), was successfully owned and operated by her for over 20 years. In her spare time, Minette became quite a gifted quilter. She also enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, beading and painting. Her passion for life was filled with adventure, she loved going up in Laurie's Air Coupe airplane, she served as co-captain of their Chris Craft 42 foot Constellation, she also enjoyed swing dancing and snow skiing. Minette was known to accompany Laurie on hunting trips and was quite accomplished with a rifle and the cross bow. In later years, Minette and Laurie traveled the United States first by car, and then by motor home. For many years, they wintered in Florida, but always returned to their beloved home in Bay City, MI. In addition, they loved spending time in Lexington, KY and vacationing in Nassau. Minette prided herself on her keen sense of humor, organizational skills and sharp wit. Minette Risser Graves will be deeply missed.
