Both fail to Regain Consciousness After Crash. One of Ames' best known couples, both long residents here, succumbed late Friday to injuries sustained in an auto accident four miles east of Dewitt, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Potter, 86 Duff Avenue, were fatally injured when a tire blew out as they were en route to Chicago to observe Mrs. Potter's 69th birthday with their son, Paul. ACTIVE IN CITY. Mr. Potter died about 4 p.m., Friday at the Jane Lamb hospital in Clinton. Mrs. Potter died about midnight at the same hospital, where both had been taken for treatment of skull fractures. Mrs. Potter also sustained a broken arm, pelvis, and leg in the accident. Neither regained consciousness after the accident. Mr. Potter was 71 and Mrs. Potter 69. Both Mr. and Mrs. Potter were well known in the city, as both had been active for many years in various organizations. Mrs. Potter was practically a lifetime resident of Ames. BORN IN OHIO. Mrs. Potter, the former Minnie Adams, was born in Ohio, Oct.9, 1868. She was married to Ezra Cornelius Potter here on Jan. 26, 1899. For a number of years Mrs. Potter was active in the Church of Christ and the P.E.O. CONTRACTOR. Mr. Potter was born in Owego, N.Y., on April 26, 1866. He came to Ames in1890, where he first engaged in the contracting business. From 1900 until 1922 he was associated with M.J.Adams in the furniture and undertaking business here. In 1922 Mr. Potter sold his interest in the furniture store to the Henderson Furniture Company. Mr. Potter was connected with Iowa State College for more than 40 years, serving as an instructor in the pattern shop in the engineering division from. 1891 until July, 1932. GENEALOGIST. Since his retirement, Mr. Potter had been very active in his hobby, genealogy, and in two organizations, the Masonic lodge and the Sons of the American Revolution. In addition to heading the local S.A.R., he served as vice president and trustee of the national S.A.R. Organization. In connection with his genealogy studies, Mr. Potter published a book record of the Adams and Potter families. He also published a book of Poems and in 1927 published the Barden Blue book. CAMERA FAN. Added to his many activities was that of a camera fan, and he recorded hundreds of pictures of family events, some of which went into his genealogy book. Clinton Adams of the Adams mortuary went to Clinton early Saturday morning to bring the two bodies to Ames. Surviving are two sons, Paul of Chicago and Robert of Eagle Rock, CAl. Robert Potter of Ames is a brother of Mr. Potter and M.J.Adams is a brother of Mrs. Potter. Funeral arrangements ere not completed Saturday morning, pending word from the son in California.
