Blanche Whitehead Hein Holmes was born March 17, 1905 in Macedonia, Iowa to George and Etta Rector Whitehead and died March 31, 1995 at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital at the age of 90 years, 14 days. Her early childhood was spent in Macedonia and Carson, Iowa. Later the family moved to Woodbine where she attended rural school and graduated in 1923. She then taught school for 3 years. After the death of her husband in 1959, she worked as a cook in the Essex School for 9 years before retiring. In 1964 she married Bernard J. Holmes and they moved to a home in Shenandoah where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a life long member of the R.L.D.S. Church, Essex Culture Club, Athenaeum Club, The Windy Summit Birthday Club, and enoyed playing bridge. Preceded in death by parents, four brothers, two sisters, husbands Leslie L. Hein in 1959, Bernard J. Holmes in 1976, one son, Virgil Hein in 1984, and a step-son, Robert Wiley in 1991. Survived by sons, Merland and wife Anna of Shenandoah, Vernon Hein of Lake Forest, Illinois, Paul Hein and wife Phyllis of Dubuque, Iowa, daughter-in-law Margaret Hein of Essex, 7 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Brother, Chester Whitehead and wife Juanita of Raymore, Missouri, two sister-in-laws, Pauline Whitehead of Independence, Missouri, and Lanealle Whitehead of Overland Park, Kansas.
