Description	:	Mrs. John Berner, 72, a long time resident of Hawarden and vicinity, died Monday at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Bemer had suffered from heart ailment for about five years and at numerous times during these years she had been critcally ill. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 at the Crazier Funeral home with Rev. B. Roy Brown officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery. Minnie Christine Goos was born at Davenport, Iowa, October 11, 1878. She moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Goos to Gladbrook when three. Here she lived a number of years and was married on May 11, 1908 to John A. Berner of Gladbrook in a double marriage ceremony with her sister, Miss Annie M. Goos and Wm. E. Eberhardt. She continued to make her home in Gladbrook where Mr. Berner worked as a mason until the spring of 1909 when they came to Hawarden. They located on the farm south of Hawarden, known as the Peek-a-Boo farm. They continued to farm in the Hawarden, Sioux Falls and Alcester vicinities until 1919 when thy came to Hawarden and built the house which they have occupied through the years. Survivors are the widower; two children, Michael C. Berner of Milledgeville IL, and Mrs. Florence Rhodes of Hawarden; a grandson, George Rhodes, and a great grand daughter Linda Lou Rhodes, of Clear Lake IA; one sister Mr. Lavina Barger of Gladbrook and four brothers, Wm. Goos of Gary SD, Herman Goos of Alcester, and Walter and Gus Goos of Gladbrook. Four sisters and one brother preceded her is death. The Independent (Hawarden, Iowa) 12/7/1950
