According to an obituary found in the "Ottumwa Courier," on Monday, January 14, 1907, Minnie's mother, Nancy Gay died Sunday, January 13, 1907, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.A. Cain, 77, died at her home at 330½ East Main street, Saturday at 10:30 p.m. Born in Mercer county, Mo., February 18, 1876, she was the daughter of Lewis R. and Nancy Power Gay. She was married to Joseph Cain on June 7, 1896, and has been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 40 years. She was a member of the Agency Methodist church and the Daughters of the American Union Veterans. She is survived by one daughter, Miss Clara V. Cain of Ottumwa; two sons, Ed C. Cain of Albia, and Paul J. Cain of Ottumwa; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Viola Truitt of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1942. Funeral services will be held at the Johnson funeral chapel Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in charge of the Rev. A.D. Pringle, pastor of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple. Burial will be in the Agency cemetery. Pallbearers will be Walter Gay, Charles Gay, Willard Gay, Claude Wright, William Rupe and Raymond Gay.
