Minnie was the daughter of Carl and Mary (Stamp) Preston. She grew up the Newton area and graduated from the Newton High School. On Friday; September 17, 1976 she was united in marriage to Doyle I. Morris of Oskaloosa; Mahaska County, Iowa. The couple made their home in Baxter. Minnie was employed at the Department of Corrections Central Office for the State of Iowa. She retired in September 2001 after 24 years of employment.... Read More	* IN LOVING MEMORY OF * Minnie Mae (Preston) Morris was born on Wednesday; October 11, 1939 in Cleveland; Bolivar County, Mississippi. Minnie was the daughter of Carl and Mary (Stamp) Preston. She grew up the Newton area and graduated from the Newton High School. On Friday; September 17, 1976 she was united in marriage to Doyle I. Morris of Oskaloosa; Mahaska County, Iowa. The couple made their home in Baxter. Minnie was employed at the Department of Corrections Central Office for the State of Iowa. She retired in September 2001 after 24 years of employment. She was also a certified instructor for hunter education. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Minnie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Izaak Walton League. She dearly loved her family and many friends; and, she always loved to share the things she created with her favorite hobby, counted cross stitching. Minnie Mae (Preston) Morris, 67, passed away on Thursday; December 28, 2006 in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are her loving husband, Doyle Morris of Baxter; Jasper County, Iowa. Her daughter, Claudia (Paul) Smith of Ames; Story County, Iowa. Her sister, Shirley (Mrs. Don) Huffaker of Baxter; and, five grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents and a half-brother, Norman Blakely. Visitation times are from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening; December 29, 2006 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter where the family will be present to greet friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday; December 30, 2006 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter. Following cremation rites at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory, private family burial will be held at a later date at the Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Legion Auxiliary in her name.
