She sang and played at weddings, church functions, and funerals around Dixon County, NE. In the fall of 1918 she had her tonsils removed at a hospital in Sioux City, IA. About a week after her return home she became ill with the 1918 flu pandemic and developed Pneumonia. She asked to be carried to her piano, and played "Nearer My God to Thee".
