1905 June 18 - Sunday, all children at home. (Harrison's living children - Elias, Ed, Cora, Myrtle and Charley. Adult children Jesse and Minnie were deceased.)

1905 October 13 - Stay all night at Mr Carters. Fix Wills well. (Is this Carter also a relative from Indiana????? Apparently Carters lived very close to Rittenhouses.)

1906 March 31 - Get home from Hastings 12 M. Cleo comes with us. (Cleo is Ed Talbert's son, HBT's grandson.)

1906 June 19 - Bessie R comes on visit. (Bessie Rittenhouse daughter of William and Dorothy Rittenhouse. Remember Dorothy was raised by Talberts.)
1906 June 28 - Tyler baby passes away 10 O'clock A.M. Stomach & Bowel trouble. (Hadley Talbert's granddaughter.
1906 Oct. 5 - Coe (Cora) starts home for Springfield, Ill. with Al Carter.

1906 November 29 - Charley & Effie is married at Sundown [Charley Talbert & Effie Hawthorne were married at the S. R. Hawthorne home 4 east of Trumbull. They moved into the big Harrison B. Talbert house 1 west of Trumbull. Built in 1887 and still lived in in 2011.]
1906 November 30 - Visit Hadly (The day before, on the 29, Harrison's son Charles married Effie Hawthorne and on the 26 Harrison had moved into Trumbull so there was plenty to discuss with his brother Hadley. Within five months Charles died and Harrison and wife moved back to the big house on the farm.)
1906 Dec. 7 - Called to Grand Island. Myrt is dangerously ill with Uremic poison. (Gets well.)
1906 Dec. 29 - Received the sad news of Uncle Docs death Dec 20 at Elwood, Ind.
1907 1907 March 20 - Charley has a successful operation [in upper left bedroom] for Appendicitis. About 10 A.M. by [Dr.] Artz, Shaffleberg & Sample [Charley died in that bedroom one month later.]
1907 April 15 - Cora arrives from Springfield (Ill.)
1907 April 21 - Sunday Charley not expected to live.
1907 April 24 - At 9-45 A.M. Charley peacefully passes away. Bless God for a Christians death & hope. [Lived in bed for over a month after surgery]
1907 April 25 - A very large funeral. Good Sermon, good exercises Snows 5 inches. [This was still horse and buggy days. Effie told me the weather on that late April day was just HORRIBLE. Effie had been married 4 months and was now a widow at 19.]
1907 June 2 - Sunday P.M. (son) Ed takes us a ride in Auto mobile to Prosser & back. [Probably second time in auto.]
1907 July 6 - (Nephew) Wheeler T. cuts wheat for me.
1907 Oct 29 - Eve Wills come to gather corn. (Either Will T or R.?)
1907 November 13 - (Nephew) Bert helps me on Engine. (Most likely a one cylinder engine with a big flywheel.).
1907 December 25 - (Christmas) A beautiful day. Good entertainment last night. Josh's (Wilson), Hadly's (Talbert) & (son) Eds (Talbert) take (noon) dinner with us (Harrison B. Talbert). Many presents, Gloves, Ring Muffler, Shirt etc.

1911 April 24 - Have Visitor Mrs (Anna) Wilcox from Seattle. A niece I had not seen since a little girl & Now Granma.

1913 February 9 - Sunday I go to church. Stay at home rest of day. The last day at old home where we have lived about 20 years. (THIS IS THEIR 1887 FARM HOME one mile west of Trumbull. As far as I know they lived there from 1887 - 1913 other than for about six months, during 1906 and 1907, while son Charles and wife Effie lived there. During those months they lived in a house in Trumbull.)
(next day) 1913 February 10 - Move to Wheelers (Talbert) place in Trum. It is rented.
1913 February 24 - Dorthy (Rittenhouse) bargains for two lots $100.00 each.
1913 March 3 - (Harrison Talbert's daughter and son-in-law) Frank (Smith) finishes loading his (railroad) car.
1913 (next day) March 4 - Frank(s) & Jes (Rittenhouse)go off on frt. (Harrison Talbert has sold his farm and his daughter Myrtle and son-in-law Frank are moving to Haxtun, Colorado. With the farm being sold the elderly Harrison & Matilda Rittenhouse Talbert have moved into Trumbull. Jes Rittenhouse is related to Matilda but it also appears that in the 1860 census Jesse's mother Dorothy became an orphan and became a stepsister of Harrison and Hadley. This is the way it looks in 2011.)
1913 (four days later) March 8 - Hadly & I haul Cobs & wood. (Probably hauling cobs and wood from Harrison's farm to his new house in Trumbull.)
1913 March 13 - Dorthy R. Buys Berts house. (Dorothy Rittenhouse. Maybe Bert Talbert had a second house in Trumbull?).
1913 March 21 - Zero, very nice day after it warmed up. Nice crowd at Aunt Jane Sleeths funeral. (The Sleeths were very good friends from Shelby Co. Ind., or maybe even related.)
1913 April 15 - Mr (Adoloph) Lambert dropped dead 8 A.M. (Niece Sarah Talbert Lambert's father-in-law.)
1913 April 17 - Drive team (of two horses) to Mr Lambert's Funeral Ha(stings).
1913 April 18 - Zab (X. A. Lambert) eats dinner with us & leaves on 3 O'clock (for Haxtun). (Apparently Sarah and children did not come back for the funeral.)
1913 May 5 - Tell E. Ormsby that I will trade for place Wheelers etc. (Wheeler Talbert)
1913 May 8 - 4 A.M. leave Hast. (by Train) for Haxtun Col. Arrive at latter place 5-15 P.M. & at Franks for supper.
1913 May 14 - (Haxtun, Colorado) Go home with Wheelers (Wheeler Talbert)
1913 May 16 - Stay with Wheeler last night, today visit Jim Prince, Ed Labrie, Eat (noon) divver at Jo Clines. Stay at Wills (Talbert).

1913 May 18 - Sunday go with Wills (west) to Fleming & then to Zabs (Lambert) for (noon) dinner.
1913 May 25 - Sunday nice day. Go to Haxtun church, a splendid memorial service by Bro Tire. (Norman) Aces, Zabs (X.A. & Sarah), & Wills (Talbert), at Franks (& Myrtle) for (noon) dinner.
1913 May 28 - Visit Aces, Zabs, Wills & past Wheelers.
1913 June 10 - (In Nebraska) Finish up trade (purchase) for Wheeler Talberts house & lot in Trum.
1913 June 28 - (Son) Eds family, (son) Elias family & Mrs Wray visit us & take (noon) dinner. (Elias's son) Billy has grown & is a fine looking Boy.
1913 July 4 - (July the 4th) Take (noon) dinner with Hadlys.
1913 July 8 - (Nephew) Bert (Talbert) goes threshing.
1913 August 14 - Clear & hot hardly sleep last night. Berts machine burns. 98 (Either his steam engine or threshing machine.)(Bert probably thought the world was against him when his machine burned up. But in two weeks his mind would change when his cousin Ed is killed in an auto accident at Hastings.)
1913 August 27 - Cellar nearly done Cleo helps us. (Grandson Cleo, age 9 - Ed's son.)
1913 August 29 - 3 1/2 PM. Ed has fatal auto accident about quarter mile east of asylum (Hastings). About 7 P.M. Bert & wife, Ma & I go to Eds.
(next day) 1913 August 30 - Clear & hot 10-30 last night Ed passes away amid great suffering. Cleo is heart broken. (Hasting Daily Tribune 30 August has a lengthy account of this accident. The steering wheel and column had a lot to do with Eds death.)
1913 September 1 - Clear & hot high wind & dusty, very disagreeable. Something like 30 (open) Autos accompany Procession to Greenwood Cemetery.
1913 September 2 - Clear & hot. Bert, Coe, & Myrt go to Elias (at Central City). (Probably a big discussion on what to do with the aging Harrison and Matilda and who would look after them. Mainly fell to their cousin Bert because he lived at Trumbull.)
1913 September 5 - Cora starts for Denver.
1913 September 11 - Commence on house Myrt leave on 3 O'clock for Haxtun Col.
1913 September 29 - P.M. Hadlys get ready to move (to Haxtun, Colorado).
1913 (next day) September 30 - Nice day eat (noon) dinner with Bert (Hadley's son), packing (Hadley's railroad) car in big fashion but give out going in Morn because they (Hadly and Mary) are not ready.
1913 (two days later) October 1 - Hadlys getting ready.
1913 (next day) October 2 Hadlys get off on freight (train) with two cars. (It appears that Hadley and wife lived in Colorado for three or maybe more years before moving back to Trumbull. Their son Bert did not move to Haxtun Colorado, but many of their children etc. did.
1913 October 9 - Sunset Social 14 present, a good time. Bloated cow on alfalfa. (Nephew) Bert stuck her twice. (Bert pokes holes with knife twice in the side of the cow to let the gas out, thus saves cow.)
1913 October 28 - Between 3 & 4 start with Bert for Hastings & Get home after dark. 8 above.
1913 November 20 - Berts starts away for Col. (to visit parents and siblings).
1913 November 26 - A regular mob at Thanksgiving supper. Go to Hansen after Elias & Irma.
1913 November 28 - Mrs Ray goes to Hast. on 3. Have an awful good time visiting with (son) Elias. (Out of four adult sons Elias is the only son still living. Jess died in 1901, Charles 1907, and Ed had just died in 1913.)
1913 December 24 - Cloudy & snowing. Myrt comes on evening freight. (Harrison, Matilda, and Myrt) Leave on 12 O'clock for Elias (at Central City). Arrive at Elias all right. Snows some 3 or 4 inches.
1913 December 25 (Christmas) Clears off last night & gets quite cold. Snow drifts some. Frank arrives (from Colorado) at Elias on 11-45 train Christmas Day & we have Xmas dinner together at Elias.
1913 December 27 - Come home from Central City. Frank & Myrt join us at Aurora (on train).
1913 December 28 - Sunday Frank sings Morn & Eve. At night Dave Eller Preaches.
1914 1914 January 5 - Frank & Myrt (Talbert Smith) leave on freight for home (Colorado). I hate to see them leave. Am awful lonesome. (About every relative is dead or living in Colorado!)
1914 January 17 - Go with Bert (in auto) to Hastings. Girl born at Tylers. (Mrs. Tyler was Bert's sister.)
1914 February 10 - Real warm Thaws real fast. Go with Bert in Auto to Hastings.
1914 February 18 - Hadly and Mary arrives from Col.

1914 July 28 - Clear & hot. Stay at home & chore. Mr. Hadlys leave for Wills. (Will Talbert, Haxtun Colorado.) (E. L. Hadley's daughter Belle married Will Talbert. Will was a son of Hadley Talbert. The Will and Belle Hadley Talbert children had two Grandpa Hadleys, that being E. L. Hadley and Hadley Talbert.) (Hadley Talbert came from Indiana and E. L. Hadley came from Illinois.) (A few years later Will and Belle Talbert moved to the Minden, Nebraska area.)

1914 September 22 - Leave Haxtun 10 A.M. (On the way home they visit Albert Harmon at Hamlet, Nebraska. Harrison and Matilda were visiting in Colorado for over five weeks. They arrived in Trumbull on the 26th.).
1914 September 26 - Arrive home on noon train. Eat (noon) dinner with Berts. (I am sure that was a little longer than normal noon meal since Harrison would be telling Bert about all the relatives in Colorado. Hadly at that time had lived in Colorado for one year.)

1915 December 24 - Snowed seven inches last night. Good Xmas entertainment. Leave on 12 (noon train) for Docs (son Elias at Central City).

25 December 25 (Christmas at Central City) Nice Xmas day, but am Sick in bed. Intestinal Grippe.
(The next year 1916 was not a good year for Harrison and Matilda Talbert. From this day, Christmas 1915 and for the next several months Harrison is ill. Once he is OK Matilda takes ill until 22 October 16. Then she is momentarily OK but shortly takes ill again and dies early in 1917.)

1918 April 17 - Rains all day one inch or more, cars stall often. Stay all night at Aurora Ill. (Cars stalled because spark plugs or other electrical parts got wet and would ground out.)

1918 April 20 - Drive from Des Moines to Omaha. Gets so slick on account of Snow have to stop & put on chains. Country quite rough, awful long hills. Hunt up Coe (daughter Cora in Omaha).
1918 April 21 - Leave Omaha 10-O clock. (Noon) Dinner at Fremont. Eve stop to clean cars & I come on train to Central City.
1918 April 24 - (Trumbull, Nebraska) (Daughter) Myrt & I take (noon) dinner at (nephew) Berts. Eve Bert takes Myrt to Hansen (she is) on way Home (Haxtun, Colorado).
1918 April 25 - Leave 3-P.M. for Hast.
1918 April 26 - Stay with Lucy (Pine Talbert) last night. Eve leave for Sutton (Nebraska).
1918 April 27 - (Probably at Sutton) Stay with Doc Stone last night. Give me thorough examination. Finds me in good condition. (Appears that Doc Stone is now living in Sutton rather than Trumbull.)
1918 April 28 - Stay with Carters. Go to Church & S.S. Leave in Eve. (Carters in Lincoln who may or may not have been relatives.)
1918 April 29 - Stay with Rileys (Talbert in Omaha). Buy new shoes.
1918 April 30 - Eat dinner with Coe two days. 6-30 leave Omaha for Chicago. (Daughter Cora Talbert in Omaha.)
1918 May 1 - Arrive at Morristown in Eve. Stay with Pheby. (Probably a relative who may have visited them in Nebraska.)

1918 May 9 - Go to Rugby, then to Greensburg, then to Shelbyville for license to get married to Sarah A. (Wicker) Talbert. Dept. Co. Clerk comes to Morristown to make out License. Married 8-P.M. at Roy S. Hysoms. (Mrs. Roy Hysom was a niece of Sarah Wicker Talbert) (Harrison and Sarah Wicker Talbert lived in MORRISTOWN.) (Sarah's father was Thomas Wicker. Siblings living about 1924 were Mrs Dortha Carter of Morristown, Mrs. John Nigh of Greenfield, Thomas Wicker of Shelbyville, George Wicker of rural Morristown. Dortha or Mrs. John Carter had daughters Maude and Gertie and son Walter.)

1918 September 21 - Go to Sutton to see Doc Stone. Nice day & nice time. He says I am not much sick, a little Stomach trouble.

1918 September 24 - Leave on train for Imperial. Rectify objections on Abstracts. Hire Auto back to Wauneta before night. Looks like Snow.
1918 September 25 - Hire an Auto, pay $8, to take me to Elsie (Nebr.) on (R.R.) high line (to Haxtun, Colorado). Get to Franks all right.
1918 September 26 - Nice day. Make trade for (purchase) Freemyers N.E. ¼. $12000.00, half down & I assume Mortgage. Eve go to Crook (Colorado) Leave 7-30.
1918 September 27 - Arrive 5 A.M. at Central City (Nebraska). Go with (son Elias) Doc on Route to Polk etc. Nice Day. Eve leave for (daughter) Coes , Omaha.
1918 September 28 - Spend the day in Omaha, have good time, Leave 6-30 for Chicago.
1918 September 29 - Sun. Leave Chicago 9-30 for Indianaplois, arrive 3-15. Leave for Morristown -4-P.M., Arrive 5-P.M. Find Sarah much better, but not well. Beautiful day.

1918 November 30 - Clear beautiful day. White frost this morn. Sarah growing weaker. Lays & sleeps in Coma. Condition, expect end to come soon. It is wonderful but she seems better in P.M.
1918 December 3 - Beautiful day. 10 A.M. (wife) Sarah (Wicker Talbert) passes away & I am alone again in the world. No, God is with me. Bless his Name.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wicker. ….. She was born in the year 1849 and was 69 ……… Three sisters Mrs. Jane Nigh of near Morristown; Mrs. Esther Rhoads, of Van Buren township, and Mrs Dorothy Carter of Hanover township. The brothers are David Wicker, Thos., Jasper and George. ….. Rev O. F. Lyda officiating. Interment … Blue River cemetery. _________

1919 March 10 - Frank & I wash, Myrtle has Flu. About 4-O-clock Frank goes to bed with Flu. I have all to do.
1919 March 28 - Put up fence between Mr Freemyer & I. Three barbed wire fence. (Three strands of barbwire.) (The "I" land most likely is the land he bought from Freemyer on 26 September 1918 after he had sold his Wauneta, Nebraska land.)
1919 April 7 - Stormed all last night & all day today, Soft Snow melted a good deal as it fell, Drifted pretty bad.

1919 April 19 - Real nice day. P.M. go to Haxtun get back to Franks 5 ½-O-clock. At Six commence gathering to celebrate My 77 Birthday. The grandest time I ever had, some 70 attended, rcvd. Many valuable Presents & eight dollars in Silver. (Money still based on silver and gold.)

1919 September 16 - Come to Febys with Harry W. visit around Morristown, visit with Lon Haney a Comrade I served 3 years with in 3rd Ind. Battery And had not seen for 55 years (since 1864, the Civil War). Stay with Ella Zike. (Alonzo Haney)
