Description	:	Mr. M. J. Van Wyk, well known Sioux County Auditor for many years, died on Friday, Nov. 15, at the Orange City hospital. He served in the County Auditor's office for 50 years. Mr. Van Wyk was born on June 17,1899 on a farm near Hull. He was the son of John and Ella Van Wyk who were early residents of Sioux County. Van Wyk, well known Sioux County Auditor for many years, died on Friday, Nov. 15, at the Orange City hospital. He served in the County Auditor's office for 50 years. Mr. Van Wyk was born on June 17,1899 on a farm near Hull. He was the son of John and Ella Van Wyk who were early residents of Sioux County. In 1925, he married Alice De Wild; Mr. Van Wyk graduated from Mankato Business College and attended Central College, Pella, Iowa. He was appointed deputy auditor on May 13,1924 and was appointed County Auditor on Sept. 9, 1931, after the death of Wm. Van Roekel and was elected to the office of County Auditor in the 1932 election. He served as President of District #3, 17 counties, of the Iowa State Association of All County Officials for many years and was Vice President of the Iowa Association of County Auditors of the state for many years. Many of his services were also donated to the local area. He served on the hospital board in Orange Ciry,during the last construction on the hospital and served on the Sioux County Health Board. He was the publicity director for the Sioux County Concert Series Association. He was one of the original board members of the Baseball Association which was responsible for newly organized baseball in Orange City. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City. Dr. R. Van Heukelom and Rev. Perry Raak officiated at the funeral services on Monday, Nov. 18, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City and at the burial services at Hope Cemetery, Hull. Music at the service was provided by Rev. and Mrs. Henry Vermeer. Survivors include the widow, one daughter Joyces Mrs. Ray Wielenga; one granddaughter Linda, Mrs. Ken Vande Brake; and one great-grandson, Michael Vande Brake. Alton Democrat Nov 20, 1974
