Rick Bailey officiating. Mrs. Porter was a lifelong resident of Greenville. She received a bachelor's degree in education from East Carolina University and was employed as an elementary teacher in the Greenville City Schools, mostly at South Greenville and Elmhurst Elementaries until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of The Memorial Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years and where she was active in adult Bible Study. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed working with children throughout her life. Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Earl and Louise Allen Sutton. She is survived by her: husband of 59 years, Ola Porter; sons, Gary Porter and wife, Eileen, of Huntersville, NC, and Jeff Porter and wife, Linda, of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Garrett, Sutton, Collin and Beau Porter; and sister, Elizabeth Roebuck and husband, Kent, of Tarboro. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Fund, ECU Medical Foundation, Mail Stop 659, 525 Moye Blvd., Greenville, NC 27834.
