He passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Monte grew up in Guthrie Center and graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1968. He then attended and graduated from Iowa State University in 1973, with a bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. In 1969, he worked for the Iowa state Highway Commission, then to Guthrie County Engineer Department from 1970 to 1973, Mills County, Glenwood, Iowa, from 1973 to 1977, and then worked for Terry Shuck Structural Engineers, Des Moines, Iowa from1977 to 1990. He was employed by Shuck-Britson Inc., Des Moines, Iowa from 1990 - to present as a Consulting Engineer. Monte enjoyed outdoors activities, fishing, boating, riding his motorcycle and target shooting. He lived in Des Moines area since 1977. He was also a Iowa State fan and enjoyed tailgating. Monte was a member Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Adair, Urbandale Fire Department since 1994, where he was a fireman and E.M.T., Boy Scouts- Order of the Arrow, was a member/ Judge of Math Counts since 1977 and president for five years. He was also a member of National Society of Professional Engineers, Iowa Engineering Society, Consulting Engineer’s Council, and the American Society of Civil Engineers.. He is survived by his parents Eugene & Margery Burr of Guthrie Center; brother Rick (Kathy) Burr of Adair; a nephew Christopher (Allison) Burr of Minnetrista, MN; a niece Brandi (Derek) Sargent of Adair; six great nephews and nieces and a special friend Linda Rence of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his grand parents. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the Twigg Funeral Home, Guthrie Center. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, Guthrie Center. Visitation will be one hour before services on Thursday, September 10, 2009, the funeral home in Guthrie Center. Memorials may be left to the Animal Rescue League or Habitat for Humanity.
