Mr. Burleson was born November 6, 1952 in Stanly County to Eltis Burleson Morton and the late Olin Floyd Burleson. He graduated from Albemarle High School, Pfeiffer University, and received his Masters in Education from Appalachian State University. Monte was a much loved instructor at South Piedmont Community College in Monroe where he taught Developmental English and Math. He deeply enjoyed helping others whether through his previous work for Stanly County Mental Health, or the volunteer assistance he provided for mentally handicapped children. He was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Union County Writer's Club. He enjoyed playing the guitar, studying genealogy, music, reading, playing tennis, and above all else being the husband of Marie and the father of his three sons. In addition to his father, Monte was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Olin Burleson. His survivors include his mother, Eltis Burleson Morton of Albemarle; his wife, Marie Burleson of Wingate; his sons, Matthew, Patrick, and Collin Burleson of Wingate; and by his sister, Marlene Thompson of Ellerbe.
