Description	:	Monte Neal Chapman of Fairmont was born Oct. 5, 1927, near Burress, in rural Fillmore County, son of Everett Dale and Ivy Beatrice (Schneider) Chapman, and died Monday, June 25, 2007, at Henderson Hospital, at the age of 79 years, eight months and 20 days. Read More	Monte Neal Chapman of Fairmont was born Oct. 5, 1927, near Burress, in rural Fillmore County, son of Everett Dale and Ivy Beatrice (Schneider) Chapman, and died Monday, June 25, 2007, at Henderson Hospital, at the age of 79 years, eight months and 20 days. He was one of five children. Monte attended the rural school at Burress through the eighth grade. At that young age, he started farming with his father. On July 22, 1948, he married Edith Mae Tracy of York at Council Church in rural York county. From then on, they worked side by side on the farm and in whatever they did. They lived their entire life in Fillmore County, where they raised their four daughters, Linda Kay, Wanda Mae, Pamela Rae and Marcia Fay. His many hobbies were woodworking, mechanics, restoring antique vehicles, pedal toys and wagons. You name it, he tried it and succeeded in many as a "Jack of all Trades." He loved to travel, mostly by car, were he could see anything that came down the road. He enjoyed traveling through many states and camping along the way. He loved to visit God's natural landmarks including the Grand Canyon, which was one of his favorites. He also enjoyed watching and feeding his squirrels and birds and entertaining children and grandchildren. Boating and camping, roller-skating, and playing games were just a few of his favorite things. He was truly proud when the family won the Fairmont Family Olympiad. You wouldn't be surprised to see Monte and Edith driving into your driveway as they were always visiting someone. He worked for the Electric Company, helped build NKC Grain of Fairmont and hauled over 1,000 vaults for the Fairmont Vault Company. He was a past member of the Grace Methodist Church in Fairmont and attended the Evangelical Free Church of Geneva. He was a member of the Metropolitan Owners Club of North America and the Nash Car Club. Many remember seeing them in local area parades, proudly driving his white convertible Metropolitan with tiny bubbles coming from the back. He was very proud to have grandchildren wanting to borrow his car. Monte is survived by his wife, Edith and their daughters, Linda and Dan Bohling and their children, Neal, Seth and Joelle; their son Caleb Joel; Matthew and Sierra; Laura and Matthew Otis, Lily and Leah; Wanda and Bill Marget; their daughters Julie and Chris McGahan and their son, Nicholas; Sanet and Soctt Schaldecker; Pame and Chad Baker and their children, Anitra and Chad Lechtenberger and their children, Cara, Ben and Ellison; Jared and Michelle Baker, their children Ethan, Kaylee, and Caleb Grant; Jess and Tracy Baker and their daughter, Hayden; Donnia and Brett Behrends; Marcia and Steve Cantrell; their sons, Eric, Tony and Jodene; and Darin. They have a total of 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren with the tenth due in August; brother, Jerry and Karen Chapman; sister-in-law, Francis (Wayne)Chapman and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Marjorie (Mrs. Fred Bartu); brothers, Wayne and Donald and grandson, Andrew Neal Bohling. Funeral services were conducted June 30 at the Evangelical Free Church in Geneva with Pastor Jeff Jensen officiating. Music was provided by daughter, Linda Bohling and a Lincoln Continental Barbershop Quartet, which includes, Chris McGahan, Wally Whitehurst, Tom Tipton, and Bob Lundberg, who sang, "I'll Fly Away," "The Lord's Prayer" and "Amazing Grace." Pallbearers were nephews, Tom Chapman, Marshall Tracy, Dean Bartu, Larry Chapman, Perry Chapman and Jay Chapman. Honorary pallbearers were Ivan C. Tracy, Terry Chapman, Chuck Chapman, Jon Chapman and LeRoy Chapman. Interment was in the Fairmont Public Cemetery.
