Moorer is seventeen years old and is a son of Mrs Eva Moorer of Asheville. His father was the late Dr Morgan P Moorer of Asheville. The missing student is six feet in height of dark complexion and brown hair. When last seen he was wearing a blue suit and patent leather shoes. Mr Hayes has just returned from Chapel Hill and he says the young man left school without any explanation and took none of his personal belongings with him. Relatives friends and university officials have broadcast a description of the missing youth employing the press radio and now have a detective agency at work on the case. Any information on the young man should be sent to the University of North Carolina authorities at Chapel Hill NC or to Leonard Hayes Georgetown SC. Evening Post December 12 1930 U of NC Student Found not Far From Chapel Hill NC Chapel Hill NC Dec 12 A decomposed body found in an wooded section four miles from here late yesterday was identified as that of Morgan P Moorer Jr University of North Carolina student who disappeared last February 28. There was a bullet hole through the skull and a pistol lay by the side of the body. Woods and fields in this section had been combed as part of a nationwide search made for Moorer the 17 year old son of a deceased physician after his disappearance. The body was found in a thick undergrowth. During the hunt for him numerous searchers had passed with a few yards of the body was eventually found. Members of the fraternity to which Moorer a freshman was pledged identified the body. The pistol found by his side was his. The youth's mother Mrs Eva Moorer lives in Washington. The disappearance of Morgan P Moorer Jr 17 year old freshman was constituted one of the strangest episodes of University of North Carolina history. A moody temperamental youth slender of body dark eyes Moorer was not well understood even by members of the Sigma Delta fraternity to which he pledged himself. Touched with genius they believed of him. Of literary inclinations he was given to the fancy that he was the reincarnation of Edgar Allen Poe. Last February 7 he disappeared. For a week university officials quietly investigated. Then the press was given the story and a nation wide search spurred on by Mrs Moorer's offer of a large reward began. "Two theories were followed." One, that Moorer had committed suicide. it was believed though not established that he carried with him a pistol when he disappeared. Search of the wood and field about Chapel Hill for months gave no evidence as to his fate. The other theory that Moorer was suffering with amnesia and wandering blindly produced little reports that he had been seen, picked up by motorist sheltered for night rumors from widely scattered cities. Various persons picked up by police over the nation were checked by Moorer's description but to no avail. Mrs Moorer moved to Washington still clinging to her hope that the boy lived. The search went ton. In September 1930 Boy Scouts and Woodsmen were set to scouring the territory about Chapel Hill.
