He left Oak when he was 18 years of age, and when 21 years old he enlisted in the army. Here he served until 1932 when he received his Medical Discharge. He came to Nelson four years ago and purchased a home in west Nelson where he has since lived with his mother. Morland leaves to mourn his departure, his mother, Mrs. Alice Scott, and three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Mulford of Yakima, Washington, Mrs. Bessie Hilt of Titan, Washington, and Mrs. Roxie Mohr of Arapahoe, Nebr. there are also fifteen nieces and nephews. His father passed away in 1917. He loved his country and with pride could say, "This is my own, my native land." He did say it by word of mouth and said it by the life he lived. He enjoyed his mother and his last days with her. The words of Longfellow fit his life: His brow is wet with honest sweat, He earns what'er he can, And looks the whole world in the face For he owes not any man. Funeral services were held in the Klawitter Mortuary on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Clarence V. Powell, assisted by Mrs. C.V. Powell. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. James Murphy, Bertha and Ed Portwood. Mrs. H.A. Brubaker presided at the piano. Interment was in the Nelson cemetery (sic).
