Grand Ave., died at 2:15 a.m. Friday in Mercy hospital from injuries suffered at 11 p.m. Thursday when he was run over by a locomotive at the Rock Island roundhouse. Mr. Hidy, a car checker employed in the Rock Island yards, was struck by the engine which was being backed down the tracks attached to another engine. Both Mr. Hidy's legs were severed at the knee and his skull was fractured. The engine was in charge of Dan Hill, 1519 Forty-fourth St. Police quoted Hill as saying he failed to see Hidy as the latter stepped on the tracks. ------------------------------- Des Moines Tribune, Saturday, 31 July, 1937, page 10, column 5 Funeral for Hidy Will Be Sunday Died After Being Run Over by Locomotive Funeral services for Morris Hidy, 52, of 2065 E. Grand Ave., will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will be at Mitchellville, Ia. Hidy, car checker, died Friday after having been run over by a locomotive at the Rock Island roundhouse. He is survived by his wife and two sisters, Mrs. Viola Rounds, Mankato, Minn., and Mrs. Flora Allen, Flint, Mich. ------------------------------------ from Nevada Evening Journal - 30 July 1937 Des Moines, Ia., July 30--INS--Morris Hidy, 52 of Des Moines, died today of injuries received when he was run over by a Rock Island engine at the railroad yard here last night. Morris Hidy lived in Nevada thirty years ago, a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Hidy, who moved to Nevada from Collins. During the time the family lived here the father traveled for a wholesale grocery house. The Morris Hidy mentioned in the above dispath is the same Morris Hidy who left Nevada thirty or more years ago.. The parents are dead but Morris, who had been employed by the Rock Island as a freight checker for a score of years, leaves besides his immediate family, two sisters, Mrs. Viola Rounds of Mankato, Minn., and Mrs. Flora Allen of Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Mates Rounds stopped in Nevada this morning on their way to Des Moines, where they had been called following the fatal accident.
