Lease, of Forest City, received the sad intelligence from his brother, N.T. Lease of Great Falls, Montana, of the death of their brother, Mort Lease, which occurred near Belt, Montana, on Sunday, August 11. Mort and two friends were in their car, accompanied by his partner in business, a Mr. Derrer, and architecht, a Mr. Mowery, and had been in Belt on some business matters, and were returning to their homes in Great Falls, Montana. When a short distance out of Belt they were met by a Mr. Chamberlain in his car, and just how the collision occurred seems a mystery. The car driven by Mr. Derrer struck the Chamberlain car, and the former car was turned over. Mr. Mowery and Mort were in the rear seat and the momentum caused Mort to be knocked senseless and injured internally. Neither of the other parties were injured. The party returned to Belt, and everything possible done for the injured man, but to no avail, as he died shortly after returning to Belt. His body showed no bruises, and he never regained consciousness. The funeral was held Tuesday, 14th inst., and was in charge of the Masonic Order of Great Falls, the Knights Templars forming the funeral escort. Morton N. Lease was a Forest City lad, where he was born May 10, 1869 and died near Belt, Montana, August 11, 1917, in the 49th year of his age. He went to Montana in 1888 and began to hew out his own fortune. In time he became one of the largest general contractors in that section. His twin sister died April 30, 1890. He is survived by his wife and two grown daughters, a mother, one sister and five brothers.
