Description	:	Contributed by Cheri Clark: The father of Moses Fountain was also named Moses Fountain. His mother was possibly Elizabeth “Betsey” Dodd, who had died by the early 1820s in Indiana. Moses Sr. then remarried a Mary Henderson in Fayette County, Indiana. Moses Sr. died in or near Fountain County, Indiana in late 1831/early 1832. Sale of property by his heirs is documented in legal paperwork dated 1836 through 1838. Matthew’s father was named Moses, and his grandfather was Aaron Fountain. The original family lived in Connecticut, then Bedford, Westchester, New York. A sister of Moses Sr, Abigail Yeoman, had grandchildren who moved from Ohio westward with their Fountain cousins. The known children of Moses Fountain Sr. are: Moses (unmarked Armstrong Cemetery, Davis County IA, with a gravestone at his wife’s site, Confidence Cemetery, Wayne County, Iowa); Joseph (Fountain Cemetery, Davis County, IA); Mathew (Bloomfield South Cemetery, Davis County, IA); Ruth Fuller (Farmers Point Cemetery, Menard Co., IL); Clarissa Wilson (Sugar Grove Cemetery, Tippecanoe Co., IN) and half-brother, Simeon Richard Fountain, (Good Hope Cemetery, Fayette Co. OH, with Yeoman relatives). Brother Zabed died in 1868 in Davis County, Iowa, but his grave site is unknown. There is an unknown sibling, Samuel, named in the property disbursement in 1836. Joseph also lists a Stephen Fountain, age 63, living with him for the 1860 census in Union Township, Davis County, Iowa. This Stephen was born in New York shortly before Clarissa , Zabed and Moses. His family connection is unknown.
