Description	:	Moses Grant Whorton was born at Cambridge Ohio, August 12, 1863 and died at the home of his son Harold at Francitas, Texas February 11, 1944. His parents moved to Vandaly, Jasper County, Iowa in 1865. At the age of 21 Mr. Whorton came to Wolsey, South Dakota. In 1894 he was married to Angie Kelly. To this union three children were born, two of which died in infancy. He lived in Wolsey all these years except about two years in Florida and seven years in La Harpe, Kansas, where he met and married Lura Vogan who preceded him... Read More	Moses Grant Whorton was born at Cambridge Ohio, August 12, 1863 and died at the home of his son Harold at Francitas, Texas February 11, 1944. His parents moved to Vandaly, Jasper County, Iowa in 1865. At the age of 21 Mr. Whorton came to Wolsey, South Dakota. In 1894 he was married to Angie Kelly. He lived in Wolsey all these years except about two years in Florida and seven years in La Harpe, Kansas, where he met and married Lura Vogan who preceded him in death July 11, 1937. In 1940 he moved to Francitas, Texas leaving Wolsey 56 years to the day that he arrived here. He leaves to mourn his death: a son, Harold G. Whorton and wife Violet of Francitas, Texas; two grandchildren, Everett Roger and Grant Junior Whorton, both in the U. S. Naval service; a step-son, Roy Vogan and wife Anne and their family at Huron, S. Dakota; a brother, Dan P. Whorton of Wolsey; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Martin, Alamo, Texas, Mrs. Dena Surber, Van Horne, Iowa, Mrs. Alma Tidball, Sonora, California; four nephews and seven nieces. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Miss Shirley Nicholas sang two appropriate songs, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beneath the Cross of Jesus", accompanied at the piano by Frank Heitland, Jr. Pallbearers were Fred Anderson, Authur Sexton, Joe Virvay, C. P. Getscher, Harry Writner and Harry Langbehn. Dr. Roscoe Whorton of Huron, a nephew, was an out-of-town relative in attendance at the funeral. Contributor: Rebecca Richardson (48149298)
