Lang was born Jan. 26, 1838, at Bradford, Orange county, Vt. He departed this life Nov. 2, 1910, aged seventy-two years, nine months, and six days. In 1855 he came to Fayette county, where he has since resided with the exception of two years spent in Minnesota. When the war broke out he was one of the first to respond to his country's call enlisting in the Sixth Iowa cavalry, where he served three years and three months and was honorably discharged Dec. 27, 1863. He was united in marriage to Miss Polly S. Covey. To this union five children were born. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, one son, seven grandchildren, a half-brother, H. J. Lang of Clarion, Iowa, a half-sister, Eva Van Horn of Iowa Falls, Iowa. The surviving children are Mrs. Frank Campbell of South Dakota, Mrs. John Schroyer of West Union, Simeon E., who resides on the home farm. One daughter, Mrs. Louis Lloyd, died May 12, 1901. A son Clifford C. died Dec. 2, 1878. Mr. Lang was a loving husband, a kind father, a sympathizing friend, a good neighbor. he attended strictly to his own business, which, coupled with honesty and square dealing, made him a desirable citizen who will be greatly missed at the fireside and by the community where he resided. Funeral services were held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Methodist church in West Union and were conducted by Rev. L.A. Swisher. Short services were also held at the home.
