Brown was born in Tennessee, June 29, 1849. At the age of nine years, he moved with his parents to Macoupin County, Corienville, Illinois. In this locality he lived until he came to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. M. Crouch, October 1, 1925, and where He passed away at 8:45 p.m., January 29, 1927. He was married to Thiras J. Sell, October 22, 1874. To this union were issued ten children, six boys and four girls. Two children preceded him to heaven. Those living are Mrs. Minnie E. Brouch of Cozad, Mr. James Brown of Palmyra, Illinois, Mr. Oliver A. Brown of Alton, Illinois, Mrs. Hattie N. Brown-Turner of Cozad, Mrs. Agnes Brown-Stirrip of Carlinville, Illinois, Mr. Milton S. Brown of Kincaid, Illinois, Mr. Gilbert T. Brown of Bernelda, Illinois, and Mr. Stanley S. Brown of Virdin, Illinois. Mr. Samuel Brown taught school for several years in the state of Illinois and during his lifetime was an active member in the civic affairs of his community. During his prolonged illness he was always glad to welcome the ministers who called upon him. During the last months of his affliction, he confessed Christ and said he was ready to witness for him before all. He also answered in the affirmative when asked if he were trusting in the Lord. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Crouch home south of this City and interment was made in Fairview Cemetery.
