Description	:	Many friends will learn with regret that news was received Saturday of the death in California of Mrs. Cora McLaughlin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Simmers, of this city. Mrs. McLaughlin went to the Pacific slope about three years ago and was back on a visit last spring. The remains will be brought here for interment, arriving the latter part of the week. (Abilene Reflector, Sep. 19, 1889) ~~~~OBITUARY~~~~ Died, Sept. 14, in Galt, Cal., Cora, wife of Charles W. McLaughlin and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi H. Simmers, of this city, aged 22 years, 9 months and 21 days. Mrs. McLaughlin was a pleasant, quiet, loveable woman in whose life entered nothing but peace. She grew up to womanhood beloved by all and hosts of friends hoped that when she reached the Pacific slope the hand of disease that had marked her for its own would be defeated in its purpose. But it was not to be. She sank slowly and on her visit to her family last spring it was evident that there was no stopping the destroyer. She passed quietly away amid the summer breaths of the flower-strewn slopes of the Californian valleys and her spirit took flight to the brighter world above where she rests in supreme happiness. The sympathy of many friends will go out to the bereaved husband, the motherless child and the parents and other near relatives sitting in sadness, mourning the loss of their loved one. The funeral services for Mrs. McLaughlin were held in the Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 2 p. m. The church was crowded with friends who were present to show their empathy with the bereaved family and their respect for the memory of the dead. The fire department was out in full force on account of the bereaved brother of the deceased, Mr. Jacob Simmer. Rev. Porch preached a full sermon and the remains were interred in the Abilene cemetery. (Abilene Reflector, Sep. 26, 1889) *****
