Fink Hunt From Jonathan Harvey Fink; 05/19/2018 A.D. It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that I want to tell you our mother passed away at 1:35AM California time early Saturday morning. Mom was in her 90th year.She was able to speak with so many folks yesterday which was a real gift. She had been on fairly robust medication, and her body told her when it was time to relax, transition, and greet her long lost mother, Grandaddy Harvey, Uncle Floyd, and all those who had passed on before her. What a wonderful bright charming Virginian. What an Aunt, historian, certifed art appraiser. She even tried to help us appraise a Leonardo Di Vinci painting. We had used the services as well which did the Shroud of Turin. .. Obituary Published in the Roakoke Times and Daily Progress in Charlottesvile, Virginia 1928 - 2018 ~ Dorothy "Dotsy" Harvey Fink was born on August 5, 1928, in Roseland i Nelson County, Virginia. One of 6 children, her father was a working farmer and her mother had the distinction of becoming the first female US Postal Department postmistress in Virginia in the early 1940s she was appointed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt after she had the Highest Test scores. . She attended Longwood Women's College studying modern dance, and it was there that she caught the attention of Martha Graham, who invited her to join her dance troupe in New York, a move that her father ultimately forbid, but not before a fashion house there showcased a new fabric named after her, the "Dotsy" dot. She was forever stylish. She later moved to Richmond to begin a career in retail at Thalhimers, and there she met a young gentleman buyer, Alan Fink, who through countless boxes of expensive imported Belgian/Flanders chocolates, cards, and large floral bouquets, slowly moved to the very top of her substantial list of suitors. They were married in January of 1951 and over the next 16 years had 4 Christian children and 5 moves. Alan's career led them to Pittsburgh, Pa., St. Louis, Mo.,, Chicago, Il.,, Kansas City, Mo., and then back to Roanoke, Virginia to found a family business. At every stop, as the family grew, there would be great Republican parties, 8 mm movies, and a growing collection of true friends. In Roanoke, the family lived in Dotsy's dream home, "Lone Oaks," a mid-19th Century Federal style grand home with 5 outbuildings. The family would continue to live there for a Score, 20 years, and "Dotsy" honed her craft of collecting and Professionally appraising fine antiques as well art. In the mid 1970's, Dotsy and Alan moved to California, where they would live in Carlsbad, La Jolla, Irvine, Laguna Niguel, and finally Laguna Woods. Alan passed away in 1996, and in her later years one could find "Dotsy" whale /dolphin watching in the southern Baja of Mexico, or deeply entrenched in the most iconic cellars in all of Burgundy, France. All through these years she never lost her passion for dancing, and dancing with Dotsy was truly like having a butterfly on your fingertips, light, graceful, and joyous. She danced EVERY day until three months before her passing. Mrs. Dorothy Eugenia Harvey Fink passed away on May 19, 2018, peacefully and surrounded by family. In the hours before she passed away, lucid until her final breaths, she called her entire family, one by one. To say we were lucky to have had her for so long would be a vast understatement. She taught her family humor, empathy, ethics, and so much more. She leaves behind four children, Jeffrey of Tustin, Calif., Jonathan Harvey of Charlottesville, Va. and Phuket, Thailand, David Bradford of Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif. and Beaune, France, and Melissa (Missy)of San Clemente, Calif., and seven grandchildren. A friend to all and Matriarch of The Masters of Food and Wine, and GourmetFest Carmel. A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Methodist church in Roseland, Va. on Va. Rt 151 South at Widows Corner. God Bless. .... ... .. .
