Description	:	Genive (Jenny) Smetter of Beaver Crossing, widow of Homer, died at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 25 days. She was born July 25, 1929 in Ord, Nebraska to Elmer and Dorothy (Larkin) Steider, the first of seven children. She graduated from Beaver Crossing High School with the class of 1947. Read More	Genive (Jenny) Smetter of Beaver Crossing, widow of Homer, died at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 25 days. She was born July 25, 1929 in Ord, Nebraska to Elmer and Dorothy (Larkin) Steider, the first of seven children. She graduated from Beaver Crossing High School with the class of 1947. After graduation she moved to Lincoln, Arkansas where she worked at the Green Pack Tomatoes in the office. On September 29, 1947 she was united in marriage to Homer Smetter at Lincoln, Arkansas and to this marriage six children were born: a son, Ronnie, and five daughters including two sets of twins: Carol, Janet and Judy, Tracy and Terry. Together they moved back to Nebraska where they raised their family. Genive and her children delivered the "Lincoln Journal" for several years. She was employed by Verna's Café until Verna retired. Then she went to work at the Beaver Café' until 1983 when she became a cook and dietary aide for Sunrise Country Manor, retiring after 16 years. Upon her retirement in 1999, Genive was an avid quilter and made quilts for most of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing fancy work (crochet and embroidery) and babysitting her grandchildren. She was known to her great-grandson, Hunter Streit as "Grandma Great". She loved going to her grandchildren's sports events and feeding and watching the squirrels. She also enjoyed her cat named "Mother". She was a member of the United Methodist Church for 62 years and for many years attended the Ladies Aid of the Christian Church. Genive was an excellent cook and she especially enjoyed preparing meals for family gatherings. Her family will miss her tea rolls and homemade noodles. Along with her brother, Roger, Genive enjoyed many trips to Indiana to the Indy 500. Genive is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Janice Smetter, Lincoln; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Kenny White, Beaver Crossing, Janet Smetter, Lincoln; Judy and John Kunert of Beaver Crossing; Tracy Payne and long time companion, Lonnie Miller, both of Beaver Crossing; Terry Schmailzl and special friend, Rob Fredrick both of Lincoln; Tara Payne, Friend; Tysha Payne of Beaver Crossing; Molly and Mila Miller, Beaver Crossing; three great-grandchildren, Hunter and Brylie Streit and Draven Payne; sisters and brother-in-law, Joyce and Gale McClatchey, Beech Grove, Indiana; Verna Martin, Titusville, Florida; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Norma Steider, Roger and Beverly Steider, Glenn and Judy Steider; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Cynthia Smetter, all of Lincoln; Dorothy McClatchey, Des Moines, Iowa, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends and her special cat, "Mother". She was preceded in death by her husband Homer in 1999, father, Elmer Steider, mother Dorothy Dickey, step-father Vernon Dickey, brother, Lyle Steider, father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Carrie Smetter, brothers-in-law Ray Martin and Verl McClatchey.
