Read More	"Hannah Josephine (Josie) Hawkins Davenport was born in Cannon County, Tennessee on January 21, 1860. She was the first born daughter of William B. and Pheriby Adeline Wimberly Hawkins of Cannon County, Tennessee. The following is the obituary from the newspaper: MRS. H. DAVENPORT, 75, IS DEATH VICTIM Mrs. Hannah Davenport, 75, wife of R.B. Davenport, of the Eighth district of this county, died at her home after several months illness May 31. She had been married to R. B. Davenport 42 years and had lived in the Eighth district all those years. She had been a member of the Methodist church for a number of years, and was a splendid Christian woman and her many friends regret her departure. Surviving are her husband, R. B. Davenport, and one son, R.H. Davenport, three grand children, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Enos, all of this county. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thompson, pastor of the Woodbury Methodist church, assisted by Rev. E. T. Brazzell Interment in family cemetery with McMillen & Co. funeral directors in charge. 6-7-1935 Josie's grandaughter, my Aunt "Kathleen" remembers being at the funeral at Blue Wing Cemetery as a young girl. She said her mother, Beaulah "Mae" passed out from the grief of it all. Hannah Josephine Hawkins was first married to a Mr. Massie H. Long, in Cannon County, Tennessee on November 15, 1883. They had one son, Charlie Hill Long. Her second marriage was to Reuben Benjamin Franklin Davenport, on January 27, 1895. The only child of this marriage, is my Grandfather, Robert Howard Davenport. I'm told he thought an awful lot of his mother, and always spoke so well of her. Josie was a woman of many talents, she was quite industrious, she gardened, canned, was a mid-wife, and she knew all about herbs, today she would be known as an herbalist. Now..........for more of this story...Robert H. and his wife Mae and their children( Loretta, Kathleen and Robert Jr.) lived with Ben and Josie for a time. This is a story my Dad told me. One day I was asking questions about Ma Davenport, like what kind of things did she like to cook for the family when he was a boy, and the conversation was just going here and there, and then he mentioned one of his favorites was always her Caramel Cake, it sounded so delicious the way my Dad (Robert Jr.) described it, it makes you wish you had her recipe! And in the course of the conversation he mentioned how his mother, (Mae) had a very dry sense of humor, but you could always tell when she was kidding by the twinkle in her blue eyes, she was a lot of fun, but was a serious minded type of person, not one to carry on, or exaggerate, like some folks do. So when she told this story, it was highly unusual and was so unlike her to tell something of this nature..... She ("Mae"), told him, Grandma (Hannah Josie) had been sick for some time, and my Grandma Mae, of course living right there had been a main caretaker. Grandma Mae said the Doctor would be in and out days on end, and family friends, and neighbors would come and go throughout the days of her illness. One evening she said Grandma Josie's bedroom door was slightly ajar and she noticed what looked like a light or glow shining out from around the sides of the door. Grandma, (Mae) said she could hear voices conversing very softly and couldn't make out what was being said, and she thought to herself, who is it in there with Grandma Josie, they need to go on home and let Grandma Josie get some rest, because it was getting late in the day. Well, when she peeked in the door, that was already slightly ajar, she was taken aback, she saw these people standing around Grandma Josie's bed they were opulent, all dressed in light colored robes, they were talking with her and she seemed to know them and they her, and they all seemed to glow like candle light and even Grandma Josie was glowing..... and she (Grandma Mae) just stood there astonished at the sight of it all, and wondered who they could be, and however did they get in Grandma Josie's room without my Grandma Mae having seen them, after all, she had been there in the house all the day. She very softly, so as not to disturb them, pulled the bedroom door to, so whatever this was all about she would give them some privacy, she then went and got a family member to come with her to see if they might know who these people were, and when they returned to her room, they found Grandma Josie with such a look of peace, lying there in her bed, she had already passed on to her heavenly home, we believe they must have been angels, sent to escort her home....... this rememberance always puts me in a state of awe when I think about it,...... I remember how the tone of Dad's voice changed, to one of awe, as he told this story........
