Undocumented family histories suggest one wife may have been named Mary McCown/McGowin. Another source suggests she had died in 1732 prior to William's arrival in Augusta Co., VA, ca. 1746 in which case "Mary" should not have been buried in this cemetery, in which instance a second wife would be possible. Due to the indicated spread of birth dates for the children mentioned in William's will, it is possible a second wife was the mother of Joseph Bell The wife mentioned in William's will was not identified. No gravestone can be located for this grave.
