Adams Held Wednesday Memorial services were held in the Malvern Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon of Master Sergeant Russell C. Adams, whose death occurred Sunday morning. They were conduted by the Rev. John L Beebout with Mansfield's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Mr. Beebout read the following life sketch: Russell Culver Adams, son of John Lee Adams and Mary Emma Culver, was born September 13, 1899 in Emerson, Mills, Iowa. He died August 10, 1952 in Offut Air Base Hospital in Omaha. He attended high school in Corning, Iowa, where his family had move. From there he entered the army in 1917 and served in World War I. At the end of the war he became a civilian for a few years, then returned to the services in 1927. On June 8, 1929 he was united in marriage in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Lillian M. Dobson of Kirksville, Missouri. A daughter, Nancy Lee and a son ward Gregory, were born to them. Surviving are his wife and two children, two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Mathers of Bremerton, Washington, Mrs. Lenore N. Snodgrass of Corning and one brother, Willard Adams of Beatrice, Nebraska. His last army service was in Guam where he became ill and was flown to Fitzslmmone Hospital in Denver, Colorado. After treatment there he received his medical discharge from the army and returned to Malvern where he established a home for his family. He has been a member of the Methodist Church since early childhood and while living in Malvern was faithful in attendance at his church. He was in Council Bluffs with his wife, to be near their gravely ill son, and there he became suddenly and seriously ill. He was taken to the hospital but in spite of the skilled attention death came in little more than 24 hours. During World War II he served in the 17th Pursuit Squadron and trained groups of solders for overseas duty. He was scheduled to go with a group to the Pacific area but on the eve of sailing was ordered to remain in the States. That group took part in the tragic Bataan march. For 27 years, more than half his life span, he served his country honorably and faithfully and did his full part to save America for us all. We who would honor him today gratefully acknowledge our everlasting debt to him and his comrades in service. Serving as pall bearers were veteran with whom he had become acquainted during his brief residence in Malvern. James Summers, Albert Seipold, Charles Costello, J. E. Ellison, Fred Harrog, and Harry Adams. Music was furnished by Mrs. Costello who was accompanied by Mrs. Ellison. Mrs. Ray Collen, Mrs. T. E. Shonka, Mrs. Albert Seipold, and Mrs. F. A. Wortman cared for the flowers. Following the memorial services, the body was taken to the Emerson Cemetery for burial where final military rites were performed by Harry Hammons post of the American Legion.
